Portland, Oregon's Rock KUFO (101.1) is dead, station to simulcast sister KXL
Alpha Broadcasting President/COO Bob Proffitt says the surprise simulcast will expose "a whole new audience" to news/talk KXL (750). After 21 years in the format, rock KUFO had fallen to a four-way tie for 15th place (age 6+ AQH) in the January Arbitron PPMs. While sister KXL-AM sits in 11th place with a 3.5, as you can see on the Ratings Page of Radio-Info.com. The KXL lineup is Portland's Morning News (5-9am). Glenn Beck (9am to noon). Lars Larson (noon-4pm). Portland's Afternoon News (4-7 pm). The Lars Larson National Show (7-9pm). And The Jason Lewis Show (9pm-midnight). Alpha is no doubt hoping the addition of the full Class C signal of KUFO will push KXL higher in the rankings. Portland's highest-ranking talk-based station is Oregon Public Broadcasting's news/talk KOPB-AM/FM (1600/91.5) - #2 in the January PPMs. Clear Channel's talk KEX (1190) has a 3.0 share, part of that four-way tie with KUFO. Clear Channel's progressive talk KPOJ notched a 1.2 share in January. The website for Alpha's KXL is here. The Oregon Board of Radio-Info.com is talking about the loss the onetime "Rock 101" KUFO and the new KXL simulcast here.
