Radio becomes a lifeline during the Christmas blizzard of 2010
From Philadelphia to Boston, the blizzard that started to taper off Monday morning is still wreaking havoc along the I-95 corridor. The storm dumped 12-26 inches of snow in the New York City metropolitan area, closing major airports in the Northeast with thousands of canceled flights, while many roads were shut, leaving some drivers stranded on highways that closed down while they were on them. Even the New York City subway was stopped in its tracks, with some passengers stranded over eight hours on trains. WPLJ-FM (95.5) traffic reporter Heather O'Rourke told WABC-TV she moved just seven miles in three hours on a New Jersey highway on Monday morning. In Philadelphia, the snow forced the Eagles football fame to be canceled and moved to an unprecedented Tuesday night NFL game, after nearly two feet of snow turned the City of Brotherly Love white. Radio has been a lifeline for people getting information on the blizzard. For Philadelphia news, check out the continuous coverage on KYW-AM (1060) here. Get New York City's news on WINS-AM "1010 WINS" here - and Boston's WBZ-AM (1030) here.
