Radio hate speech is prevalent, says a UCLA report

hate A study conducted by UCLA found that comments against Hispanics are on the increase, and many of the comments may not have a basis in fact. The study analyzed three specific talk shows on different broadcast days. It included the June 24 "Savage Nation," the July 30 "John & Ken Show" on KFI-AM (640) in Los Angeles, and the syndicated Lou Dobbs on July 31. The study identified 140 distinct statements in question, and found 37% were not observable, 11% were completely false and 31% were either unverifiable or distorted. National Hispanic Media Coalition EVP Ines Gonzalez tells EFE, "there are statements even more radical, because they dehumanize Hispanics by identifying them with animals like 'cucarachas,' a way of creating a methodology that teaches listeners to react with scorn against vulnerable groups."
