“Radio is the last magic that there is in life”

That’s from Conclave Rockwell award winner Valerie Geller, honored at today’s luncheon in Minneapolis. Geller was associated with stations such as KFI, Los Angeles and WABC, New York and then she became a world-traveling coach and consultant, and the author of three books about “creating powerful radio.” She says there’s “nowhere else in the world, where if you feel alone or depressed or isolated, suddenly you hit a black button, and you’re no longer alone.” Geller tells the Conclave luncheon “it could be a disc jockey or talk personality that connects you to the community” – as long as it’s someone with “passion.” She acknowledges the “technological shift” underway, but says “we don’t just have radio to play with, we have the Internet and all kinds of mobile mediums.” Her bottom line – “personalities will survive and thrive always.”
