Radio news alters programming after the US takes out bin Laden

Osama Bin Laden Almost immediately, radio stations and networks around the nation changed their programming when news of the death of Osama Bin Laden began to emerge late Sunday evening. ABC News Radio offered affiliates live overnight coverage with special updates every 15 minutes. Coast to Coast host George Noory spent the first two hours of his Premiere-syndicated show talking about bin Laden. The Salem Radio Network aired a special three-hour program overnight hosted by Salem SVP of News & Talk Programming Tom Tradup called "Osama bin Laden - Justice At Last." During the broadcast of Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN, announcer Dan Shulman let those hearing the New York Mets - Philadelphia Phillies game know what was happening, and moments after, chants of "USA-USA" bellowed from the capacity crowd in Philadelphia. A number of radio stations around the nation interrupted late-night programming, including San Diego's KFMB-AM (760), where hosts Mike Slater & Anna Good came in to give Southern California radio listeners a place to discuss Bin Laden's death. Trenton, New Jersey's WKXW-FM (101.5) dropped their weekend oldies music for an impromptu talk show hosted by News Director Eric Scott. Of course, radio throughout the nation was wall-to-wall with coverage of Osama Bin Laden's death as the top topic of conversation.
