Radio One brings back John Mason, the "Voice of Detroit"
John Mason is returning to Radio One, and will become the new afternoon talk
host on Detroit's Black Talk WCHB-AM (1200). He will follow the Rev. Al Sharpton's syndicated show. Mason was previously heard on WCHB's
newly LMA-ed sister-station WGPR-FM (107.5) hosting mornings, but his show was canceled in
October when the Radio One put the urban format of WHTD on that signal. Mason was also heard for many years in mornings on Clear Channel's Urban WJLB and later on Radio One's Urban AC WDMK. In an interview with the Detroit News,
Mason, who is known as the "Voice of Detroit" says, "Talk is different. I'm comfortable with it. Quite frankly, the
timing is in the vibe of the universe. It's a progression for me ... Obviously
we won't be pushing as fast, but I think we've got enough to fill it up." You
can listen to "News/Talk 1200" here.
