Radio Remembers: Abie Nathan; Wayne Campbell
He will be remembered for buying a 188-foot freighter with the help of John Lennon which he anchored off the coast of Tel Aviv, turning the ship into the popular pirate radio station "Voice of Peace" that broadcast for 20 years. Abie Nathan, a peace activist who also flew his private plane from Israel to Egypt prior to the Six-Day War in 1967, died in an Israeli hospital. He was 81 ... Wayne Campbell was a longtime Lynchburg, Virginia radio voice from the 1960's to 1991. He was a DJ and later PD of WBRG, and WWOD until the station signed off in 1991. Campbell also made 4 country music records. Campbell passed away from lung cancer. He was 69.
