Radio Remembers: Alabama's Donnie "Slyder" Wells; Pennsylvania's Olin Harris

He was a popular personality on WFXO-FM (105.9) in Anniston, Alabama. Donnie “Slyder” Wells, Jr. was a weekender on the rock station, known for his love of White Castle burgers and Manchester United soccer. A former manager said of “Slyder” on the Radio-Info Alabama board, “Whenever I called to ask him if he would be available to do something he responded, ‘why are you asking? You know the answer.’” Wells died suddenly following a seizure & heart attack. He was only 26 – Discuss it … He was a minister and musician who had performed on Harrisburg radio & TV since the 1950’s. Olin Harris was the founder & executive producer of “Echoes of Glory” on WKBO-AM (1230), and joined WHP Radio & TV in the 1960’s, breaking racial barriers. Olin, a member of the Pennsylvania Broadcasters Hall of Fame and a musician who once performed as a soloist for President Reagan, passed away from cancer.
