Radio Remembers: Boom Boom Brannigan

Radio Remembers

He was considered the voice of rock & roll for teens in the Albany, New York area in the 1960’s. His real name was Joseph Motto, but on the radio, he was “Boom Boom Brannigan.” He worked in Buffalo as “Ronnie Victor,” but made a name for himself on the air in Utica on WTLB-AM (1310), and then in Albany, where he spent five decades on WPTR (1540) and WABY-AM (1160). His trademark was his dark glasses, velvet clothes and a big Cadillac. When the Beatles invaded America, he was the DJ who introduced them at a show in Boston, and even had them on his radio show in 1964. Brannigan/Motto has passed away following a long illness. He was 82. Albany’s WRGB-TV has a report on his passing here, and CNYRadio.com has more details here.
