Radio Remembers: California's Dan Tapson; Henk ’Bull’ Verweij of Holland's Radio Veronica

Dan Tapson made a name for himself in the early 1970’s on Oakland, California’s KNEW-AM (910) for his work in sales, and as sales manager. Tapson moved over to then-Infinity-owned KOME in San Jose, where he helped build the station into a powerhouse rock music outlet. Tapson retired from radio in the mid-1980’s. He passed away following a battle with cancer. He was 71 … Henk ’Bull’ Verweij got together with his brothers and started Radio Veronica in 1960, broadcasting from a large ship at sea into Holland, and it became the most popular station in Holland. In 1972, Verweij was found guilty of being a part of the bombing of a rival offshore radio station, and spent three months in jail. In 1974. His station applied for and received a legal license to broadcast from a land-based location. Last year, he was honored by Radio Veronica with a lifetime achievement award. Verweij has passed away at age 100.
