Radio Remembers

He got his start in radio in the ‘60s hosting a dance show on CJOH-AM in Ottawa, but he was already well known by that time. Dick Maloney was a jazz singer and songwriter who was very popular in Ontario, Canada. Maloney would later host his own show called “Sentimental Journey” on CIWW-AM (1310). In 1994, the city of Ottawa proclaimed “Dick Maloney Day” to honor his achievements. Maloney fell on a sidewalk in 2006, a fall that broke his neck and left Maloney a paraplegic. He passed away due to complications from those injuries on Thursday. He was 77 … He was the popular morning host and PD of Shreveport, Louisiana’s KQHN-FM (97.3). Gary Robinson had been with the Cumulus-owned station since 2002. “Mix 97.3” GM Susan Lucchesi posted on the station website, “Gary was an amazing man and one of the most talented and dedicated D.J.’s with whom I have ever worked … We will miss Gary dearly but will always have beautiful memories of him, his voice, his humor and his family to cherish.” Robinson passed away following a battle with Chron’s disease.
