Radio Remembers: Chicago's Mark Zerang; Oregon's "Motown Marty" McGuire
Mark Zerang spent over a quarter century working behind the scenes making sure remotes went off without a hitch and broadcasters sounded the best they could. Zerang worked as an engineer at a number of Windy City radio stations, including WSCR-AM (670), WGN-AM (720) and WBBM-AM (780). Longtime Chicago broadcaster Steve Dahl wrote on his blog that Zerang was "a friend, a colleague, and the best-damned radio engineer around," and that he could "make the pool bar in Maui seem like a $500,000 broadcast studio on Michigan Avenue with palm trees." Zerang passed away after a bout with cancer. He was only 49 ... His real name was Marty Lofback, but on the radio he was "Motown Marty" McGuire, who worked at KZZE-FM (106.3) and KBOY-FM (95.7) in the Medford area, Oregon. McGuire passed away following a brief illness. He was 60.
