Radio Remembers: Cincinnati's Bill Nimmo
He got his start in the business on the radio as an announcer on WLW-AM (700) in Cincinnati after World War II. Bill Nimmo was also a show host for the late-night "Moon River" show at one time. He left WLW-AM following a pay dispute, and moved to New York City where he linked up with Johnny Carson as the announcer for the 1950's TV show "Who Do You Trust." When he left Carson, he offered Carson some advice, saying he should hire a guy named Ed McMahon to be his sidekick. That tip obviously paid off well for Carson, who soon after began hosting the "Tonight Show" with McMahon by his side. A pioneer in the early days of Cincinnati TV, Nimmo has passed away. He was 93. The Enquirer has more details about Nimmo's career here.
