Radio Remembers: Colorado's Jack Carter; Chicago's Bob Dayton; Ireland's Ciarán Mac Mathúna

The radio bug bit him when he was 12, when he set up his own radio station in the basement of his family’s home. Jack Carter got his first job in radio in Pueblo when he was in high school, and had stops at KPUB, KDZA-AM (1350) & KCCY-FM (96.9), where he rose through the ranks to become general manager. Carter also worked in local area TV, and has passed away after a long battle with ALS. He was 61 … Bob Dayton had a long and storied radio career, working in Minneapolis, Memphis, Denver and particularly Chicago, where he was best known on stations such WJJD, WMAQ and its successor at 670, WSCR, and WGN-AM (720). He was also known for his voiceover work, and his time with FoxRock Communications. Dayton, whose real name was Bill Harper and was also known as “Bubba,” passed away from cancer. The FoxRock Communications website has more about Dayton’s life … Ireland’s RTE reports hundreds of people attended the funeral of Ciarán Mac Mathúna, a longtime producer and broadcaster for Ireland’s RTE. Mathúna started out as a producer with RTE in 1955, and in 1970, debuted the Irish music and variety program Mo Cheol Thú, which had a 35-year run until Mathúna retired. An award winning producer and broadcaster, Mathúna passed away. He was 84.
