Radio Remembers: Delmarva's Jack Buckwalter; L.A. newsman Dan Avey
He was a businessman and community leader who was known to many simply as “Jack.” John “Jack” Buckwalter spent 64 years at Lancaster Newspapers in Pennsylvania, where he rose through the ranks and was at one time the editor. He was also the chairman of the board of Steinman Enterprises, which owns Delmarva Broadcasting, the operator of a number of radio stations in Delaware and Maryland. Their stations include WDEL-AM (1150) & WSTW-FM (93.7) in Wilmington, Delaware, as well as stations in Havre de Grace, Salisbury, Maryland and Milford, Delaware. Buckwalter died suddenly while on a family vacation. He was 79 … Dan Avey spent decades as a news anchor for KFWB-AM (980) in Los Angeles. He was also at one time the co-host of the KABC-AM (790) morning show with Ken Minyard, and won over a dozen radio awards. Avey, who was also a college professor and the former voice of the Los Angeles Kings, passed away in a Los Angeles hospital. He was 79
