Radio Remembers: Dr. Ronald Chmiel, Sr.; Pete Athanas; John Fitzsimmons

He was a dentist in the Buffalo suburb of Cheektowaga for 37 years, but will also be remembered as the former owner and founder of then-WUWU (107.7), a pioneering alternative rock music radio station in Western New York. Dr. Ronald Chmiel, Sr., an Army veteran who retired as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve, just passed away. He was 72. Friends remember him here: Discuss It ... Pete Athanas was a longtime announcer & engineer at WRCO (1450/100.9) in Richland Center, Wisconsin, spending over 40 years with WRCO, including time as the owner. The veteran of the US Navy was 80 ... He was both a priest and popular broadcaster with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for about 40 years: Father John Fitzsimmons, who was remembered by the BBC as "a man of wit, learning, humor, and humanity", passed away after suffering from a long illness. He was 68.
