Radio Remembers: Engineer Elliott Klein; Seattle conductor George Shangrow

He got his start in the business as a DJ, but he made his name as an engineer. Elliott Klein was the consulting engineer for Liberman and Magic Broadcasting (KDAY), and LARadio.com says he “doubled as the chief engineer for KRIZ” when it was a Top-40 station, and helped build KNIX-FM in Phoenix for Buck Owens. Klein has passed away at 61. Phoenix veteran Todd Wallace is remembering Elliott on the Phoenix Board nowGeorge Shangrow was killed in a car crash when a teenage driver’s car slammed head-on into his after the younger driver crossed into oncoming traffic. Shangrow was the founder of the Seattle Chamber Singers and Orchestra Seattle, and he conducted operas around the world. He also spent 17 years on Seattle’s classical KING-FM (98.1) hosting the show “Live, by George,” before his contract was not renewed. Shangrow was 59.
