Radio Remembers: KFWB's Ted Quillin
He spent an amazing 60 years in radio, and helped put KFWB-AM (980) on the radio map when he was one of the “Seven Swinging Gentlemen," one of the famous DJ's of KFWB when it ushered in Top 40 music to Los Angeles. Ted Quillin got his start in radio while in high school, working as a runner for KEPO in El Paso, Texas. He moved up the ranks to announcer, moved to Corpus Christi and then Houston before he got the call from California to come to KFWB. The character of Ted Quillin in the movie "La Bamba," about the life of Ritchie Valens, was played by Rick Dees. Quillin, a member of the Nevada Radio Hall of Fame, passed away. He was 81. The Nevada Board of Radio-Info.com is talking about Quillin's work, here.
