Radio Remembers: Legendary actor Peter Graves

He is best known for his role as the “Mission Impossible” secret agent who received his next mission instructions on a tape that would self-destruct, as well as his role the pilot in the comedy spoof “Airplane.” Peter Graves appeared in nearly 130 moves, including “Stalag 17,” and whe as featured in the 1951 classic baseball film “Angels In The Outfield” as the radio announcer. That role was not much of a stretch for Graves, who got his start in the business as a 16-year old working for WNIN-AM in Minnesota. He also had roles in several radio plays before moving to the silver screen. Graves passed away of an apparent heart attack, four days shy of his 84th birthday. You can watch a clip of Graves as “Captain Oveur” in Airplane here.
