Radio Remembers: San Diego's Gary Cocker; Kansas City's Jim Gammon; Philly's Irv Homer

His real name was Helmut Kerling, but to a loyal following of listeners, he was Gary Cocker, who worked at Southern California stations such KCBQ, KPRI & KFMB-AM (760). Cocker passed away following a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was only 59, and the Radio-Info boards are already talking about the mark he left on radio – Discuss it … A legendary Kansas City radio voice was silenced with the passing of Jim Gammon. He was a longtime DJ with WHB-AM (810) when it was a Top-40 station, and worked at a number of other radio & TV stations. Known for his “rapid-fire, authoritative voice,” Gammon was popular for voice-over work. Gammon, who was battling a number of ailments, was 82 … Philadelphia talk radio veteran Irv Homer died Wednesday evening, while doing a live presentation at Eastern University. In the 1970s he was the owner of three bars and a regular caller to talk radio. He bought time on a small station, then was asked to join the crew at talker WWDB-FM (96.5) in 1975. That was his home until the format died in 2000. He continued working at WBCB, Levittown, PA (1490), on WPHT (1210) and on Channel 6 TV. Irv was in his mid 80s when he passed away.
