Radio Remembers: South Dakota's Martin Busch; "Big Ben" Laurie

Radio Remembers He was considered "The father of South Dakota Public Broadcasting": Martin Busch got his start in radio working as the PD of KUSD-AM in the 1950s, and from there also worked in TV. He never wavered from his belief that everyone, especially children, should have access to educational programming. Busch was a leader in public programming in South Dakota, and also helped in the early developments of other states' systems as well as nationally with NPR and PBS. Busch, who served in the Navy during World War II and was in the US Naval Reserves for 30 years, has passed away. He was 89 ... Ben Laurie had a long and distinguished career on the air. He was a 2004 inductee to the Texas Radio Hall of Fame who spent his entire career on the air in the Lone Star state, working in Dallas, San Antonio and Houston. His stations including KLIF-AM (570), WFAA, KILT-AM (610), KONO-AM (860) and KTSA-AM (550). As of late, Laurie was a traffic reporter working for Sirius XM and spent a number of years with Metro Traffic in Texas. Laurie was 73.
