Radio Remembers: South Jersey's Jonathan "JP" Casey; San Fran's Robin King
Jonathan “JP” Casey was a legendary figure in South Jersey radio, bouncing around at a number of area stations before settling in for 30 years on WSNJ-AM/FM in Bridgeton. Sam Lit, the son of the legendary Philadelphia DJ Hy Lit of HyLitRadio.com tells Radio-Info, “His knowledge of music was extensive and astounding. He could tell you when a song debuted. JP was a great guy.” Casey interviewed radio legends including Lit, Dick Clark, Dan Ingram, Harry Harrison and others. Lit says, “JP was so important, people like my father (Hy Lit) and Dan Ingram would drive to Bridgeton, New Jersey so they could be interviewed by him.” Casey also hosted the popular “Country Corner,” where listeners bought and sold things. He passed away after a battle with cancer. He was 65 – Discuss it … He was born in New York but made his name on the West Coast. Robin King was a children’s book author and illustrator, but also worked in TV and did a number of national commercials in the 1970’s, including “Mighty Dog” dog food and Clorox detergent. King joined KCBS-AM (740) in San Francisco, but would also work for other stations in news, talk and hosting classical music shows. King passed away. He was 90.
