Radio Remembers: Texas Radio Hall of Famer Richard Mock; Georgia's Jim Steele
Richard Mock worked in a number of markets, including Dallas and Houston, along with stops in San Diego and Kansas City. The stations included KCMO-AM (710) in Kansas City, KFMB-AM (760) in San Diego, KILT-AM (610) in Houston and KLIF-AM (570) in Dallas. Mock, who also worked in television, was a recent inductee to the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. He interviewed then-presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy in the 1960's, and also covered the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas. Mock passed away in Missouri. He was 77. You can listen to an aircheck of Mock here ... He was the longtime owner and president of WKBX-FM (106.3) in Kingsland, Georgia just north of Jacksonville. Jim Steele was a radio announcer when he moved south to Georgia from New York and bought "K-Bay" in 1989. A longtime treasurer of the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame, Steele recently donated to the Peabody Museum at the University of Georgia his collection of 265 vintage microphones. Steele, who was battling cancer, passed away in his home.
