Radio Remembers: "The Duke of Flatbush" Duke Snider; West Virginia's Wes Ryan

Radio Remembers He will always be remembered as the "Duke of Flatbush," one of the three famous center fielders of the 1950's in New York City along with Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays. Brooklyn Dodgers great Duke Snider joined the club one year after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier. After he ended his playing days, he would later enter the radio booth to call baseball games for the then-Montreal Expos (now Washington Nationals) on then-CFCF-AM in Montreal. That was from 1973 to 1986. Snider, whose number 4 jersey was retired by the Dodgers and voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1980, has passed away. He was 84 ... Despite his young age he had already received awards of excellence from the West Virginia Broadcasters Association. Wes Ryan was the PD of sports WSWW-AM/FM "ESPN" (1450/104.5) in Charleston, West Virginia and co-hosted a sports/talk show on the West Virginia Radio Corporation stations.
