He was the evening voice of “Country 98.3 FM” WKSR in Pulaski, Tennessee. Tom Pardon was not just a country music DJ: he also did high school sports on the station and spent over 20 years in radio. Pardon was 61 when he died … Syl Binkin was one of the 12 original announcers for the American Forces Network in Europe during World War II, and was the very first voice heard on the American Forces Radio Network on July 4, 1943. Binkin founded WMAY-AM (970) in Springfield, Illinois in 1950, and in 1964 took over as co-owner and GM of WXCL-FM (104.9) in Peoria until he retired from radio in 1980. Binkin has died at age 95 … DJ Michael Ray was known to his listeners as “Big Daddy.” During his time in radio, “Big Daddy” worked at Equity Communications-owned WZBZ-FM (99.3) “The Buzz” (licensed to Pleasantville, New Jersey), which later became “Kiss-FM” and moved from Hip-Hop to CHR. A one-time school teacher, Ray died following when his car crashed into a tree in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. He was only 43. The Press newspaper of Atlantic City has more about Ray’s passing.
