Radio Remembers: Upstate NY's Don DeRosa; Tuscaloosa's Ronnie Quarles
He was once known as the “Emperor", at Utica’s WRUN. Don DeRosa worked as an on-air announcer, GM and also owned a station in Upstate New York. He was the GM of WOSC-AM & WKFM-FM in the 1980’s, and would later buy WOSC, which became WAMF-AM (1300) in Fulton, New York. DeRosa passed away after a battle with cancer. The Radio-Info Syracuse-Utica board has more here – Discuss it … Ronnie Quarles was a Tuscaloosa native and graduate of the University of Alabama who got his start in television before making a move to radio. Quarles worked in TV ad sales for WCFT-TV where he was sales manager. After a stop in newspaper sales, he joined Tuscaloosa’s WTBC-AM (1230) where he worked in sales, and also had a special spot on morning drive as “The Q.” Quarles passed away after a two-year battle with cancer. He was 58.
