Radio Remembers: WOWO's "Diamond Jim Brady"; Wisconsin's Jack Gennaro; Oklahoma's Wes Stegeman
His real name was James A. Ellenwood Jr. However, to listeners of Fort Wayne, Indiana’s WOWO-AM (1190) back in the 1960’s, he was “Diamond Jim Brady,” the evening DJ. Ellenwood also worked at a few other statiions, eventually becoming the announcer for “21 Alive” WPTA-TV. Ellenwood was 67 … Jack Gennaro was the former General Manager of WOBT-AM (1240) in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, and would later call WFHR-AM (1320) and WWRW-FM (103.3) in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin his home from 1964 to 1989. Gennaro was also responsible for getting University of Wisconsin Badgers football games onto a statewide network. A former president of the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, and member of the Wisconsin Broadcasters Hall of Fame, Gennaro was 83 – Discuss it … Wes Stegeman was the longtime GM of KAKC-AM (1300) and KBEZ-FM (92.9) in Tulsa, Oklahoma for nearly 30 years. One poster on the Radio-Info Oklahoma board said of Stegeman, “Although he was a lot older than the rest of us, he was as hip as any jock on the staff.” Stegeman was 87 – Discuss it.
