Radio stations are providing a lifeline in tornado-stricken states

tornado Radio stations in the Southeast and Midwest, and even New Hampshire, are working overtime, whether it's gathering much-needed supplies for tornado victims or disseminating information. In Joplin, Missouri, where over 120 people were killed, the Zimmer Radio stations remain on the air, though seven of their own staffers are homeless. Earlier, tornadoes also ripped through Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and despite a bitter college football rivalry between Alabama and Florida, Sports WMOP-AM (900) in Ocala and Gainesville's WGGG-AM (1230) have organized "Gators Lifting the Tide." They're collecting supplies and gift cards to be brought to Alabama Disaster Relief. Hanover, New Hampshire's WFRD-FM (99.3) "99-Rock" is collecting everything from pet supplies to toilet paper to non-perishable food and water to be sent to Missouri. Springfield, Missouri's rock KQRA-FM (102.1) is holding a "Stuff-A-Truck" campaign to gather supplies that will be taken down the highway to Joplin for a local distribution center. Cox Radio's Tulsa, Oklahoma stations got together and gathered supplies and over $20,000 in monetary donations for the American Red Cross that will be used for victims of tornadoes in Oklahoma and Missouri. In Kansas, Great Plains Media's KMXN-FM (92.9), KLZR-FM (105.9) & KLWN-AM (1320) are using a donated truck to gather supplies and drive them to Joplin to be given to the American Red Cross.
