Report: The Pittsburgh Pirates are heading to "Fan" KDKA-FM (93.7)
The Pittsburgh Pirates had their games heard for 51 years on KDKA-AM (1020) in Pittsburgh. It appears they're heading back to a different KDKA, but this time the one on the FM dial. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette cites "industry sources" who believe that after spending the last five years with Clear Channel, the Pirates are moving back to CBS Radio, but this time on the all-sports "Fan." The Pirates went to Clear Channel for better promotional opportunities, with games heard on news/talk WPGB-FM (104.7) and promoted elsewhere around the cluster. At that time, all-sports KDKA-FM did not exist. The Fan is also the flagship station for University of Pittsburgh athletics, and the Pirates would become KDKA-FM's first major professional team sports affiliation.
