R.I.P.: Veteran Connecticut meteorologist Dr. Mel Goldstein

Well-known weather broadcaster and meteorologistDr. Mel Goldsteindied Wednesday, January 18, at age 66, after a 15-year battle with bone marrow cancer. He provided weather reports at Berkshire Broadcasting’s talk WLAD-AM Danbury, starting in the mid-1970s. He also was heard on Quinnipiac University’s adult standards WQUN-AM Hamden, Conn., as well as ABC affiliate WTNH New Haven. Goldstein also delivered forecasts for several stations associated with Western Connecticut State University. He served as an academic advisor for Bill Jacquemin, now owner and chief meteorologist at private forecasting company Connecticut Weather Center in Danbury. And he launched a multiple myeloma research foundation at Yale University, funding it, in part, from proceeds of two books he wrote on weather. Those are "The Idiot's Guide to Weather" and "Dr. Mel's Connecticut Climate Book." Goldstein also he talked openly on the air about his struggles with the disease.
