Rowdy Yates Lands In Mornings At KVOO Tulsa
Country KVOO-FM Tulsa, Okla., has hired veteran air personality Rowdy Yates as morning co-host, effective May 9. He will join the current morning team of Sunny Leigh and Luke Dawg (aka PD Luke Jensen) for the new "Rowdy, Sunny & Luke Dawg Show," and fills a vacancy left by Skip Mahaffey, who held the position for eight months before exiting in January. Yates was afternoon host at country KILT-FM Houston for 17 years until he relocated to Tulsa earlier this month because of his wife's job transfer. He continues to host the syndicated "Country Gold" show for Westwood One. Prior to KILT, he was with sister station KIKK-AM-FM Houston, and also worked in Oklahoma City and New Orleans, and served as a personality and PD in several smaller Texas markets. He is a two-time Academy of Country Music Awards nominee for disc jockey of the year. In 2009, he was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. Radio-Info.com's Houston discussion board is talking about Yates here.
