Salem sells Providence-market WBZS (550) to lay-Catholic Starboard Media

Relevant Radio Price: $750,000, in cash, for a station that will soon be using Starboard Media Foundation's "Relevant Radio", branded as "Talk radio for Catholic life." Business-news WBZS, Pawtucket, Rhode Island becomes the eastern-most extension of Wisconsin-based Starboard Media. It owns seven stations in Wisconsin, and one each in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Texas (Austin). Salem bought then-WDDZ from Radio Disney about a year ago, paying $550,000, and then re-formatted it as business-talk under the "WBZS" call letters. The station has 1,000 watts daytime and 500 watts at night. Broker on the deal between Salem Communications and Father Francis Hoffman-run Starboard Media: Kalil & Company. The Providence Board of Radio-Info.com has been talking about the deal for several days, here.
