SBS CEO Raul Alarcon sees yearly pay drop from $2.5M to $2M

Spanish Broadcasting System From today's TRI Newsletter: The Spanish Broadcasting System board raised Alarcon's base salary from $1 million to $1,250,000 in 2007 and it’s stayed there, despite the economy and the stock-price woes of SBS. But Alarcon actually has been making less money than he used to, in total compensation. For 2009, he did just shy of $2.5 million, thanks to a bonus of just over $1 million. But his bonus is partly tied to a formula that’s “equal to 7.5% of same-station annual cash flow.” That's been dropping. For 2010, his total bonus (contractual bonus of $18,133 and discretionary bonus from the board of $500,000) was half that of 2009, at $518,133. His “all other compensation” total was about $20,000 lighter than last year, down to about $150,000. Half of that ($74,361) was his “use of an automobile and driver.” Alarcon must have pretty terrific insurance coverage – his health insurance premiums for the year were $25,684. His life insurance premium ran $16,715. Total compensation for one of radio’s more highly-paid CEOs: $1,982,883. It’s about $500,000 less than the $2,486,358 from 2009. Alarcon has 2.3% of the company's Class A shares, but he owns 100% of the super-voting Class B shares, and the combination gives him 82.7% of the voting power.
