Seattle’s all-sports KJR-AM (950) adds a South Sound FM simulcast
Clear Channel seeks a competitive advantage against local sports rival KIRO-AM (710), owned by Bonneville. KJR-AM and KIRO-AM ared tied at identical 3.5 shares in the latest October Arbitron PPMs, ranked by age 6+ AQH shares. The answer? Clear Channel shelves the “Q Country” format on Centralia, Washingon-licensed KNBQ (102.9) to begin simulcasting KJR-AM. That doesn’t affect the station already known as KJR-FM, “Oldies 95.7.” Clear Channel says "The simulcast will increase 950 KJR’s reach and will cover many areas of the South Sound including Tacoma, Spanaway, Rochester, Port Orchard, Bremerton, Olympia, Graham, Orting, Gig Harbor, Eatonville, Lacey and Tenino." Clear Channel already operates a South Sound all-sports station: Tacoma-licensed KHHO. Check the lineup and listen to the new "Sports Radio 950/102.9" KJR here. See what the Seattle-Tacoma Board of Radio-Info.com is saying, on the "Q Country gone?" thread, here.Previous and Next Stories
