Sirius XM now reaches 20.2 million subscribers after "record" 2010
CEO Mel Karmazin reports net subscriber additions of 328,789 in the fourth quarter of last year, making the full-year gain over 1.4 million subscribers. The expense of getting those subscribers (SAC, or subscriber acquisition cost) dropped from $64 the previous year to $58, and churn improved from 2% to 1.9%. The free cash flow at Sirius XM grew from a positive $150 million in late 2009 to $167 million.Coming up: Karmazin tells this morning's conference call to expect a data service, an Electronic Program Guide, the ability to buy music from the radio, and more events like the Paul McCartney concert at the Apollo, which celebrated Sirius XM hitting 20 million subs.
Total revenue for the quarter was $736 million and revenue for the year was $2.82 million. For the year ahead, Sirius XM expects revenue to hit about $3 billion, and the number of subscribers grow by another 1.4 million - the same as 2010. Karmazin cites "continuing improvements in auto sales", and also the re-signing of assets such as Howard Stern and the NFL.
