Six Townsquare Media stations – already running on backup power – have a fire
The Flint, Michigan cluster that includes AC “Cars 108” WCRZ was knocked off the air at 5am by a ruptured natural gas line that was feeding the station’s emergency generator. The whole complex had been on backup power since Tuesday because of high winds. The local ABC 12 News department quotes a fire chief saying that this morning’s fire was so hot, “the [gas] meter melted completely away.” The fire itself was put out fairly quickly, but the station is still assessing the damage. Townsquare Media has brought in portable generators, and five of the six stations are back on the air, at least playing music or some semblance of their normal programming. The complex will be on emergency generator power until next week. The Michigan Board of Radio-Info.com is talking about the mess.
