Snipers kill a staffer at Radio Simba in Somalia

gun Farah Hassan Salal was the logistics manager and also a driver for Radio Simba in the capital city of Mogadishu, a city and area known for violence. He was hit by three shots fired by a sniper outside of the radio station, killing the 45-year old. The Committee to Protect Journalists say Salal may have been mistaken for a member of the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabaab, since the shots were fired from an area controlled by African Union forces. The CPJ says "We call on both sides of the conflict to use all means possible to avoid civilian casualties, including media staff. African Union forces must make an immediate inquiry into this tragic incident." Radio Simba had been off the air for three days after their transmitter was damaged following artillery fire.
