Somalia's HornAfrik radio director assassinated
In the latest murder of a radio journalist in war-torn Somalia, Said Tahliil Ahmed, the director of private-owned HornAfrik radio, was assassinated by masked gunmen at a market in Mogadishu. Ahmed’s killing is the 9th of a journalist since 2007. Ahmed replaced HornAfrik radio’s Ali Iman Sharmake, who was killed by a car bomb in 2007 while returning from the funeral of a station talk host – who was murdered the day prior. While Iraq is considered the most dangerous place for reporters in recent years, Somalia ranks 3rd in the number of unsolved journalist murders, and one of the most dangerous places for journalists to work, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
