Spain's Grupo Prisa to cut 2500 jobs

Grupo Prisa Media conglomerate Grupo Prisa, which operates newspapers, radio and TV stations in 22 countries, will be cutting 2,500 jobs, as much as 18% of their worldwide workforce. 2,000 jobs will be lost in Spain, while another 500 jobs will be cut at Grupo Prisa in Portugal and the Americas, including the United States. The move comes as Grupo Prisa names Fernando Abril-Martorell as Deputy CEO & CFO, replacing Juan Luis Cebrian starting April 1. This is the first major managerial move since New York-based Liberty Acquisition Holdings Corp. bought a controlling stake in Grupo Prisa two months ago. In the United States, Grupo Prisa programs WSUA-AM (1260) "Radio Caracol" in Miami and Southern California's XETRA-AM "W Radio" (690). Grupo Prisa also owns radio stations in Spain, Portugal, Columbia, Argentina, Chile and Mexico.
