Talk radio's J.D Hayworth facing huge odds in today's Arizona GOP primary
At one time, former 2008 Presidential candidate and Arizona Senator John McCain was facing the distinct possibility of losing his seat in the US Senate. What a difference a few months make. J.D. Hayworth, a former Congressman who gained notice during the “Republican Revolution” of the 1990s and later became a talk show host on KFYI-AM (550) in Phoenix, became the darling of state Tea Party followers. At that time, many political pundits felt he had a real chance of unseating the incumbent McCain, who Hayworth labeled as being too close to President Obama on the issues. Then McCain, who leaned more to the right, began to pull away in election polls by as much as 21%. He is expected to defeat Hayworth when polls close. Hayworth however, isn’t going quietly into the Arizona night, announcing, “We’re going to pull off an upset of historic proportions.” If he doesn’t win, he said he would support the GOP ticket. A bigger question if Hayworth doesn’t win, will he return to radio?
