Talker Michael Savage wants free of syndicator TRN

Michael Savage Savage (Michael Weiner) is suing Talk Radio Network in federal court, claiming that with his TRN contract expiring this month, he wants to accept a competing offer from Courtside Radio (Norm Pattiz) and Westwood One. He alleges that Oregon-based TRN is employing "strong-arm tactics designed to intimidate" him into accepting a "sub-standard agreement containing what can only be described as an indentured servitude provision." TRN has the right to match an outside offer, says Courthouse News Service, but Savage claims its renewal "does not match the terms of the Courtside proposal." The "Savage Nation" host says the differences in the two offers aren't just about money, but also non-competes and other limitations to his rights. He's trying to avoid going to arbitration, as specified in his current contract. The Savage suit was filed in the Northern District of California on Monday. TRN's Mark Masters says this in response: "Michael's lawsuit against us is unjustified and frivolous...Michael's contract is crystal clear, and we are 100% confident that the courts will justify our position." The News/Talk Board of Radio-Info.com quickly picked up the Michael Savage topic and is talking about it here.
