The $1,400 booze bill will require an explanation – from the CBC execs who spent it

Canadian taxpayers in the midst of a recession may have a problem with this one. The Edmonton Sun says 14 Radio-Canada executives expensed over $8,900 on a 2-day stay in a luxury resort during an August retreat in Quebec. Of that total, $6,800 was spent just for 12 hotel rooms, and over $1,400 was solely for alcoholic beverages. The newspaper says senior managers ordered a late dinner, costing $825, but just $146 of that total was for food, as the rest went for alcohol. CBC spokesman Marco Dube told the newspaper, “while the (taxpayer funded) public broadcaster does not have a policy toward expensing liquor, all expenses incurred for meetings are subject to approval by the employee’s superior.” Among the other expenses for the 2-day jaunt, 17 bottles and 28 individual glasses of wine were bought by the 14 executives.
