The "mega-storm" bears down on the nation – and radio gears up
As a blizzard and record-setting snowfall is heading straight for Chicago, all-news WBBM-AM (780) has storm warnings on their website and on-air, saying they're ready for continuous coverage. You can listen to "Newsradio 780" here. Milwaukee's news/talk WTMJ-AM (620) is teaming with sister-station WTMJ-TV for weather and news information, with anywhere from 9-22 inches of snow on the way. You can see the "620-WTMJ" website here. In Washington, DC, freezing rain is expected to begin with the Tuesday afternoon commute, which could turn the Capital Beltway into a skating rink. All-news WTOP-FM (103.5) will have news, traffic and weather around the clock that you can listen to here. In Syracuse, New York, news/talk WSYR-AM/FM (570/106.9) midday anchor Nia Carter tells Radio-Info, "We're expecting over a foot of snow. Driving will be difficult and we'll have coverage of the storm, including traffic and weather and news reports." In New York City, all-news WINS-AM (1010) is gearing up for a snow event to the north, and sleet & ice through the city and south. You can listen to "1010 WINS" here. At MetroNetworks in New York City, Radio-Info is told that they will be adding extra producers and offering additional TV and radio traffic reports for their nearly 100 client stations for the duration of the storm. A news producer at all-news WBZ-AM (1030) in Boston tells Radio-Info they already have six inches of snow on the ground Tuesday midday, and depending on the temperatures it could be snow or rain through Wednesday. WBZ will have a special afternoon news block on Tuesday, with cut-ins whenever necessary. You can listen to "Newsradio 1030" here.
