They are doing local news on Hawaii's KMKK after all

news

Following a report in the Molokai News out of Hawaii, it seems that KMKK-FM (102.3) in Kaunakakai is not abandoning local news and local ad sales. The Molokai News reported earlier this week that the only station on that island was “embarking on a different sales strategy and [is] not going to be running local ads on the station in the near future.” However, Ohana Broadcasting Company Director of Programming Rick Thomas says the Molokai News report “is not based on fact.” Thomas tells Radio-Info.com, “KMKK terminated its relationship with David Lichtenstein (former KMKK-FM News Director) and the Moloka'i News due to a differing vision of what professional sounding community news should sound like on a Hawaiian music format. Our commitment to community information and service remains strong. The ‘change’ was the reporter.” As for no longer accepting local ads Thomas states clearly, “This is untrue.” Thomas describes Lichtenstein as being “an ex-contractor of KMKK’s,” and disputes the Molokai News story about KMKK and Ohana Broadcasting Company.
