Three Michaels-hired execs leave Tribune: Chase, Gilbert, Kapugi

Tribune building

Randy Michaels resigned as CEO and at least three longtime associates of his from Jacor and/or Clear Channel Radio are going, too. The Chicago Tribune's Phil Rosenthal says more may be headed out the door, but he names three so far. Those are Tribune Interactive President Marc Chase, a longtime radio programmer with Jacor and Clear Channel. Executive VP Carolyn Gilbert, who ran the Cincinnati-based Critical Mass Media shop when Michaels owned it, and then later for Clear Channel. And Senior VP/COO Jeff Kapugi. He tells the Tribune reporter that his position was eliminated by Chicago Tribune Media Group's Tony Hunter, in a re-organization that is likely to continue. That could also claim people such as John Phillips. It was he who posted pictures of a poker party held in Michaels' Tribune Tower office. Phillips was moved from Cincinnati, where he had been a traffic reporter, to Chicago, as the Tribune Tower's director of facilities. His wife Betsy Phillips is apparently leaving as a VP/Sales at Tribune Broadcasting.
