Toledo is the next market for sports on FM, on Cumulus' "Zone" WRWK (106.5)
The takeover by sister all-sports sister “Ticket” WLQR at 1470 happens on Monday, says the Toledo Blade – the modern rock “Zone” music format on 106.5 will die and be replaced by a simulcast of The Ticket. WLQR PD Norm Warner tells the Blade that “everyone has been having a tough time with the economy, but the sports format [on WLQR] has been terrific.” Cumulus believes they’ll have better luck selling the 25-54 demos they hope to attract with the new simulcast. WLQR’s got the local rights to three Detroit pro teams – the NFL Lions, baseball Tigers and NHL Red Wings – plus Ohio State. If there’s a conflict between two of those schedules, the Ticket will temporarily break off the simulcast. It’s affiliated with ESPN Radio. The Ticket’s new FM signal is the Class A WRWK at 106.5, licensed to Delta, Ohio. The Ohio Board evaluates the format of the modern rock Zone, and the Class A signal of 106.5, located southwest of the market – here.
