Townsquare Media gets FCC approval, takes over former Regent stations

That happened at midnight on July 1 for all but two of the former Regent stations. After the company emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the Regent Communications stations had been in a Jay Meyers-run trust until FCC granted approval. Now Townsquare officially takes over, ending the temporary LMA of the stations back from the trust. Townsquare is the name chosen by the Connecticut-based company that made an investment in Regent and is now managing Regent. Lender Oaktree Capital is the majority owner of Townsquare, following the debt-for-equity exchange that brought Regent out of Chapter 11. But two Regent FMs couldn’t transfer to Townsquare because of current FCC local-market ownership limits. Those are Ft. Collins-market classic rocker KARS-FM at 102.9 (licensed to Laramie, WY but playing in the Ft. Collins market). And Lafayette, Louisiana-market “Planet 105.1” KFTE, Abbeville, which just recently swapped spots on the dial with talk KPEL-FM, now at 96.5. Those two stations now belong to the Ft. Collins/Lafayette Divestiture Trust, which is also run by Jay Meyers of Broadcast Management and Technology. KARS and KFTE are officially for sale, through Meyers.
