Tribune proposes paying senior executives an additional $15 million

The recipients include “nine of Tribune’s top-ranking corporate leaders”, says the Wall Street Journal. The compensation is part of the Chapter 11 re-organization plan submitted by the company, and will be subject to approval by creditors. Tribune already approved $57.4 million in bonuses that were paid out between May 2009 and February 2009. The Chicago-based company has been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since December 2008. It sought the shelter of the Delaware bankruptcy court just one year after the Sam Zell-led buyout left Tribune Company burdened with debt it couldn’t pay because of the recession and the shrinkage of revenues in the newspaper business.
