Two Portland stations support the Oregon Ducks by re-branding

Portland, Ore., country station KWJJ (99.5 The Wolf) is temporarily re-branding itself as "99.5 The Duck," complete with a new logo. PD Mike Moore says, “We're trading fur for feathers.” The move is a show of support for the University of Oregon Ducks, which played the Auburn University Tigers Monday night in Arizona for the BCS Championship title. (The Ducks lost in the last few seconds, 22–19.) The station's morning team—Mike Chase, Amy Faust and producer Dan Clark—teamed up with local TV host Pete Ferryman of Fox 12's "Good Day Oregon" to write and rap a tournament fight song, "Big Duck Convoy." A video is available to view at thewolfonline.com and here. The station's slogan and logo will return to normal tomorrow.

Not to be outdone, crosstown country rival KUPL became "Duck Country 98.7" after the game, also changing its logo in a move announced hours after KWJJ's.“It’s just our way of showing team spirit and pride in what the Ducks have done this season,” said Scott Mahalick, KUPL owner Alpha Broadcasting's director of music programming. “We have rooted for them all season… We’re hoping the championship trophy will be coming home to Eugene, but either way we’re really proud of our Ducks!”
