Two Quebec stations are flagged for "inappropriate use of montages"

The CRTC regulator lays down a new 10% maximum for montages of multiple songs, while making an example of Cogeco CHR CKOI, Montreal (96.9) and Astral's CHR CKTF, Gatineau, Quebec. The agency says both were running far too many collages of "popular English-language and non-Canadian music", circumventing the rules about Canadian content and their "conditions of license." Both stations were running levels of montages as high as 18%. The CRTC offers this definition of a montage: "Although it may contain excerpts from several songs, a montage is considered a single piece of music for purposes of calculating the levels of Canadian content and French-language vocal music." The regulator is sensitive to the competitive situation of such stations and promises to gather data and "hold a symposium in the Winter of 2012", as part of a review of its policies regarding Francophone stations.
